Dr. Chux Daniels - African Diaspora Regional Chair Dr. Chux Daniels, PhD, is currently a Teaching Fellow in Innovation Studies at SPRU (Science Policy Research Unit), School of Business, Management and Economics, University of Sussex, United Kingdom. His teaching, research and consultancy interests include: Science, Technology and Innovation (STI); Public Policies and Policymaking; Capabilities for Policymaking; International Development; Business and Management; Leadership and Strategy. Dr. Daniels is a Visiting Research Fellow at various STI and Public Policy Institutes, and has held various lecturing, research, management, leadership and consultancy positions in academia and world-class corporate establishments. Dr. Judith S. Gbenoudon - ECOWAS Regional Chair & Co-ordinator for Francophone Countries Dr Judith Gbenoudon is the Director for Informatics and Pre-achieving at the Ministry for Higher Education and Scientific Research, in the Republic of Benin. She is also the Director of the Laboratory of Immunology for Infectious and Allergic diseases (IMMIA), at the Institute for Applied Biomedical Sciences (ISBA), in Cotonou, Benin. Prof. Aziz Bensalah - North Africa Regional Chair Prof. Aziz Bensalah is currently Professor at the Mohammed V University of Rabat in Morocco and was previously Professor at the National Centre for Scientific and Technical Research in the same city. In the latter institution, he has been, between early 2008 and late 2014, Head of the Unit for the promotion and dissemination of Scientific and Technical Culture. Mr. Rodrick Sambakunsi - SADC Regional Chair Mr Roderick Emmanuel Sambakunsi is based in Malawi, and currently working for the Malawi Liverpool Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme. He is currently working as a Science Communication Manager in the Science Communication and Public Engagement Department, and his role involves spearheading public and community engagement, as well as communicating effectively, research science to different stakeholders, including research communities, the general public, and students from primary and secondary schools. Mr. David Mbulumi - Head of Media Operations David Mbulumi has a rare background that combines an academic background in laboratory sciences and a career in journalism and communication. A Tanzanian national based in Accra, Ghana, for three years David headed the Policy Engagement and Communications (PEC) Department for the INDEPTH Network, a leading provider of health and demographic statistics in low and middle income countries in Africa, Asia and Oceania. Ms. Deborah Nyirenda - Membership Co-ordinator Ms. Deborah Nyirenda is a PhD fellow from the University of Liverpool and University of Malawi-College of Medicine joint PhD Program. Her doctoral research is funded by a Scholarship award from the Wellcome Trust to investigate the purpose, relevance and benefits of community engagement in health research. She holds a Master’s Degree in International Public Health from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, UK, which was funded by a Scholarship award from the Commonwealth. Previously, she took the lead on qualitative studies exploring health seeking behaviour in response to Acute Bacterial Meningitis; an assessment of a triage intervention in primary health centres; and an evaluation of a public engagement radio programme. Ms. Funmi Eyeoyibo - ECOWAS Deputy-Regional Chair Funmi Eyeoyibo has over twenty years’ successful track record of working in the public, private and civil society sectors of Nigeria.  She is a LEAD International Fellow and a Fellow of the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NUFFIC). She holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Toxicology and Pollution Management from the University of Lagos and is a registered PhD student in Natural Resources, Environment and Sustainable Development at the University of Port Harcourt, Nigeria. Funmi has attended several professional development courses both locally and internationally and was a panelist at the United Nations Environment Programme Financial Initiative Global Roundtable in 2009, talking on the topic “The Problem with Ecosystems- Valuing the Priceless”. Prof. Andre Ramos Prof. André Ramos is a Professor in the field of Genetics at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC), Brazil, and the Co-ordinator of the Imagine Project which delivers innovative and inclusive science popularization programmes and outreach activities in rural and indigenous communities, in various countries in Latin America.

In his role as Global Ambassador of African Gong, Prof. Ramos has initiated a partnership programme to bring together African and Latin American institutions to develop a creative platform for the advancement of science communication across both continents, and which elaborates their shared historical, geographical, language and development links. This initiative is the Imagine-Pangea Programme, which is conceptualized as a science communication competition and which will involve graduate students from Latin America and Africa. The Imagine-Pangea project involves the following partners from Africa and Latin America: Red-POP – The Latin American Science Communication Network; African Gong – the Pan African Network for the Popularization of Science & Technology and Science Communication; and SBPC – the Brazilian Association for the Advancement of Science. Dr. Luisa Massarani is the Director of RedPOP, the network for science communication in Latin America and the Caribbean, for the period of 2014-2017. Since 2003, she has been the Latin American Co-ordinator of SciDev.Net (www.scidev.net), a gateway based in London aimed at science and development in developing countries. Dr. Massarani has worked on research, teaching and practice in Public Communication of Science and Technology, since 1987. She is based at the Museum of Life (www.museudavida.fiocruz.br), a hands on science museum in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) linked to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), a key health research institution in Latin America, linked to the Brazilian Ministry of Health.
